ACI World Board Member Sani Şener informs the CEOs of 2,397 airports about Turkey

Speaking at the general assembly of ACI World, Airports Council International, held in Montreal, TAV Airports President & CEO Şener told how the crisis after the terrorist attack to Istanbul Atatürk Airport had been managed. Şener also mentioned that Turkish people came to the airport during the coup attempt to defend democracy.

The annual general assembly of Airport Council International (ACI World), the main global organization of airport operators, was held in Montreal, Canada. Sani Şener, who is a board member of the Council, explained how TAV managed the crisis at Istanbul Atatürk Airport after the heinous terrorist attack held on June 28th and how the airport was put back into operation in a very short period of time such as eight hours to the CEOs of the airports worldwide. Şener also remarked the details of events occurred at the airport during July 15th coup attempt.

TAV Airports President & CEO Sani Şener stated: “The assembly has been a great opportunity to inform the senior managers that represent 2,397 airports around the world about this experience and explain the existing situation in Turkey. I believe we represented our country in the best possible way throughout the meeting. Our presentation regarding the terrorist attacks and coup attempt revealed the true colors of the events. Everybody agreed that putting the airport back into operation in just eight hours was a significant reaction towards terrorism. The participants were impressed by the events happened at Istanbul Atatürk Airport during the coup attempt, the photos of the tanks parked in front of the airport and the attitude of Turkish people towards the coup attempt and praised how they acted to claim democracy."

Having been appointed to the Board of ACI World representing Europe continent since 2014, Sani Şener also mentioned that the representatives of various European airports asked about the details of the security controls at the entrance gates of Atatürk Airport after the terrorist attack.

General assembly of ACI World was attended by the representatives of 2,397 airports located at 160 countries. Based in Montreal, the organization was established in 1991. Last year, ACI-member airports provided service to 7.1 billion passengers and 86 million flights worldwide.
