TAV signed the Declaration of Energy Efficiency in Buildings
Centering its focus on sustainability in all operations since its foundation, TAV has become the first airport operator to break grounds with the initiative embarked with the purpose of drawing attention to the extensive use of energy in buildings and reducing the amount of energy utilization. The declaration written by the Business Council for Sustainable Growth of Turkey (BCSD Turkey) has been signed today by the 15 outstanding corporations in a ceremony held at Wow Hotel. General Manager of TAV Istanbul, Kemal Ünlü signed the declaration on behalf of the TAV Holding.
Emphasizing in his remarks during the ceremony that Turkey obtains most of its energy via import, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yıldız also stated that energy efficiency is considered as one of the crucial resources that can meet the energy deficit. Adding that the legislative procedures concerning the energy issue are completed, Yıldız congratulated the association members for their initiative.
Commenting on the issue, President of the Business Council for Sustainable Growth Turkey (BCSD Turkey) Galya Frayman Molinas stressed that investments on the energy efficiency reduce the operating costs, enhance the employee motivation and satisfaction creating a more competitive environment and increasing the corporate reputation. Philip Fonta, Project Manager of the Energy Efficiency in Buildings initiated by the World Business Council of Sustainable Development (WBCSD) which carried the project started in Turkey in 2006 to the international platform and under which BCSD Turkey operates, stressed that everyone should take action right away in order to ensure a better future.
The other corporations which signed the declaration are as follows: Aygaz, BP Türkiye, Coca-Cola, Deloitte Türkiye, Eczacıbaşı Holding, Garanti Bankası, Procter&Gamble, Sabancı Holding, Shell, Şekerbank, TNT Express, Tüpraş, Unilever, Vodafone Turkey. The companies put forward five main commitments as to analyze the existing circumstances, determine the reduction objectives, form a corporate policy on the energy efficiency, prepare a specific strategy and a program to achieve these goals, report the operations and organize events to raise awareness.
