Awarded the tender for the construction of the Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport Domestic Terminal, which is one of the most important infrastructure projects of Izmir, and operating rights for both Domestic and International Terminals until the end of 2032, TAV Airports has signed the contract with the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI). In the ceremony, of which Minister of Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Communications Binali Yildirim has attended, Izmir Governor M. Cahit Kirac, DHMI General Manager Orhan Birdal, DHMI Deputy General Manager Funda Ocak, TAV Airports Board Chairman Board Hamdi Akin and TAV Airports Chief Executive Officer M. Sani Sener have signed.
Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport Domestic and International Terminals Leasing Contract Signing Ceremony and New CIP Lounge Opening were held in Izmir, with the participation of Minister of Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Communications Binali Yildirim. With the contract signed by DHMI General Manager Orhan Birdal, DHMI Deputy General Manager Funda Ocak, TAV Airports Board Chairman Hamdi Akin and TAV Airports CEO M. Sani Sener will also invest 250 million Euros within the frame of Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport tender, which was awarded to TAV with a proposal of 610 million Euros + VAT.
Minister of Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Communications Binali Yildirim stated at the ceremony that “We are here to actualize one of the 35 projects that we have promised for Izmir. The international terminal that we are in now has been completed in 15 months. The construction of the Domestic Terminal will follow up. A domestic terminal will be built twice of the size of current International Terminal. There will be passages between international and domestic terminals. A railway will be set up there. Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport will serve to 25 million passengers with this investment. If we keep in mind 2020 Expo Izmir, the residents of Izmir would be the ones who understand the importance of this. This project is an investment for the future of Izmir. Izmir will continue to be Turkey’s brand city. Also as the initiator of this project, TAV Airports keeps on to be the pride and global trademark of Turkey with all domestic and international airports under its operation.”
DHMI General Manager Orhan Birdal said: “The passenger numbers in total were 528 thousand 16 in 1987, in 2002 this number rose up to 960 thousand. In 2010, this number was recorded over 5 million. The current domestic terminal was subject to reinforcement works with Izmir being an earthquake-prone region. Instead of doing that, we decided to open a tender to have a brand new domestic terminal with a higher capacity. We published our notice of award at September 9th, 2011 which is also Izmir’s Independence Day. The tender was realized at November 17th with intense 11 rounds in which hard bargains were held and TAV Airports won the award. We now have a 1 billion Euro worth economic value with the rent, investment and VAT.”
TAV Airports Board Chairman Hamdi Akin expressed: "The Ministry of Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Communications solved a great deal of problems concerning airports via its projects going back to 10 years together with DHMI sparing our government spending on this subject. I see this project in this scope. We will contribute to our city Izmir’s needs with a rent of 610 million Euro plus VAT and we will invest 250 million Euro. I hope that we’ll complete the domestic terminal in the first half of 2014. I believe that this will be an active period for all of Izmir’s infrastructure projects. Izmir has a beautiful future.”
TAV Airports CEO M. Sani Şener said “Our Ministry of Transportation and DHMI created a platform to perform one of the most important infrastructure projects by demolishing the old Domestic Terminal and building a new one with integration to the current International Terminal. As TAV Airports we will invest 250 million Euro for the new Domestic Terminal. Additionally, we will pay another 650 million plus VAT to DHMI as rent.” Şener continued: “Recently Izmir is being the scene of an intense activity with our government's support and projects. Now the city is solving its problems such as bed capacity and advertising. As the operator of Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport International Terminal we, TAV Airports, were conducting serious marketing campaigns since 2007. We advertised for Izmir in almost every corner of the world in various expositions. Our work affected the rise in passenger numbers. But I still don’t think that Izmir gets what it really deserves in terms of aviation sector. Izmir has a big potential. As TAV Airports, we will do our best in order to realize that potential in the following days.”
TAV Airports was awarded with the tender of operation of current Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport International Terminal, CIP, Domestic Terminal and its supplements with its offer of 610 million Euro plus VAT. The tender was organized by DHMI at November 17th, 2011. TAV Airports left behind all the other groups who presented offers for the right of operation of the airport till 2032. TAV Airports will invest approximately 250 million Euros to build a new Domestic Terminal in scope of the tender of Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport current International Terminal, CIP, Domestic Terminal and its supplementary. The Domestic and International Terminal will be connected to each other by a bridge similar to the one at the Istanbul Atatürk Airport. According to the data of DHMI, Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport hosted 7 million 954 thousand passengers in the first 11 months of 2011 with a rise of 14 percent with regard to 2010.
The ceremony was held also for the opening of CIP and General Aviation Lounge which is operated by “primeclass” and which are located at the Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport International Terminal. TAV will be serving with its professional and warm staff at the CIP and General Aviation Lounge with their modern and minimalist decoration. “Primeclass” CIP and General Aviation Lounge will make sure of a modern and comfortable waiting environment for the passengers with its black and white decoration. Newspapers, magazines and internet connection with music and telecasting are also offered besides catering in the lounge. Our guests can also observe the planes in the apron while waiting for their flight.
