Skopje Alexander The Great Airport
TAV Airports undertook the operation of Skopje Alexander the Great Airport in the capital city of Macedonia, with effect from March 1st, 2010; another important step for TAV Airports in its target region Europe. Also an important step in respect of operating the airport in the capital city of Macedonia which is anticipated to join the EU in the near future. Rebuilt by TAV Airports to increase the capacity, Skopje Alexander the Great Airport in 500 years old Macedonia where Turkey has historical relations with started its operations with effect from September the 8th, 2011. The capacity of Skopje Alexander the Great Airport which has now been increased to provide service to 4 million passengers a year will be operated by TAV Airports for the next 20 years until March 2030. Setting off with the goal to make Skopje as one of the major "hubs" in the Balkans, TAV Airports expanded the Skopje Airport within 18 months and 5 days with new 40 thousand square meters terminal building to accommodate 6 passenger bridges, the apron and the runway as well as increasing the cargo and car park capacities. A 40 thousand tons capacity a year cargo hangar, a new fire station, 5 thousand square meter management building, 300 vehicle car park, 23 check-in counters and 500 meter expansion to the runway were also amongst the works completed.
